A drop in grade paved the way to victory for ultra-consistent Nadeem Lass in the Bendigo Gold Bracelet on Saturday.
A last-start placegetter in Group Three company at Flemington, Nadeem Lass was given a perfect run through the race by Matthew Allen before scoring a narrow win.
"She deserved that," said Don Healy, an assistant with trainer Robbie Griffiths.
"She's been very consistent through her career.
"It may have been just her third win, but she's been placed in 15 of her 32 starts and that took her prizemoney past the $300,000 mark.
"There's not too many that win that sort of money."
Nadeem Lass ($17) hit the lead at the 150m mark and held off West Australian visitor Bippo No Bungus ($21) by a half-head with Written ($7.50) a length away third.
Healy said after watching the first four races it was decided to go forward on the mare.
"It looked an advantage to be in the first four today, so the plan was to go forward," Healy said.
"Maxie (Allen) rode her perfectly and he deserves the victory as much as the mare.
"He does a power of work for the stable but just doesn't get the accolades."
Healy said Nadeem Lass had a perfect attitude and would make a lovely broodmare when retired.
