A sore hoof has gone some way to explaining an Epona Stakes performance that disappointed Rising Romance's trainer Donna Logan.
Last year's Australian Oaks winner and Caulfield Cup runner-up was beaten in a photo-finish to the Group Three race at Rosehill, her lead-up to Saturday's BMW.
On Sunday she was found to be favouring her off hind leg and Logan said it appeared she might have a stone bruise.
"She has a poultice on it and we will know more tomorrow but if it is a stone bruise the sooner you get on top of these things the better," Logan said.
"As long as she is OK she will definitely run in the BMW."
Logan said apart from that issue, Rising Romance and Saturday's Rosehill Guineas winner Volkstok'n'barrell had both come through their races well.
"They both licked their bins out which is a great sign," she said.
The Guineas win was one to savour for Logan after Volkstok'n'barrell was beaten by Mongolian Khan in the New Zealand Derby before travelling to Australia.
Mongolian Khan finished fifth in the Guineas, more than six lengths from the winner.
Volkstok'n'barrell showed the stamina Logan knew he had when he won out over Victoria Derby winner Preferment.
Although he ran second, it is Preferment who is the new Australian Derby favourite at $3.50 ahead of Volkstok'n'barrell at $4.60 with Mongolian Khan easing to $8.
Logan said Volkstok'n'barrell was potentially the best horse she had trained and his future included the Cox Plate.
Volkstok'n'barrell's win was a timely one for Sir Patrick Hogan who is scheduled to announce the 2015 service fee for his sire Tavistock.
The Guineas gave the Cambridge Stud stallion his first Group One winner.
Tavistock is also New Zealand's leading second season sire and Hogan is in discussions with his partners in the horse to finalise his stud fee.
