Champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls has added Rebel Rebellion to his Grand National hopes after his success at Newbury on Saturday.
The 10-year-old clinched his second prize of the season for Nicholls in the hands of talented conditional jockey Jack Sherwood.
Nicholls had been considering the Topham Chase over the famous Aintree fences for Rebel Rebellion but he is instead set to go for National glory on April 11.
"I thought he was exposed and had plenty to do at the weights, but he won really well," Nicholls told Racing UK.
"He's run well over three miles, he's bred to stay. I suspect Ryan Mahon will probably ride him."
Rebel Rebellion, who has firmed from 40-1 to 33-1, is one of seven possible runners Nicholls has engaged in the National headed by Rocky Creek (10-1) and Unioniste (20-1).
