Weir aiming sprinters at interstate G1s

Sunday 29 March 2015, 4:26pm

Having won the final Group One race of the season in Melbourne, trainer Darren Weir now has top level races in three other states in his sights.

Lucky Hussler was an authoritative winner of Friday night's William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, giving Weir his third Melbourne Group One for the season.

Weir said the gelding would head to the Group One All Aged Stakes (1400m) in Sydney on April 18.

He has two other Group One sprinters in his stable being aimed at Adelaide and Brisbane features.

Platelet resumed with a Moonee Valley win on Friday night in a 955m race and will follow a familiar path to the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes and The Goodwood in Adelaide in her final racing campaign.

Dual Group One winner Trust In A Gust will step out in a 1200m sprint at Caulfield on April 18 before targeting the Brisbane winter carnival.

"He's just a little bit behind where we want him so he'll resume at Caulfield and then he'll go to Brisbane for the BTC Cup, Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke," Weir said.

Platelet won the corresponding 955m race first-up last year before finishing second in the Group Three R N Irwin Stakes and second in both the Robert Sangster Stakes and The Goodwood.

In 2013 she was second in the Irwin and won the Sangster-Goodwood Group One double.

Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock's Darren Dance, managing owner of Platelet, is hoping the mare can bow out of racing with more Group One success before starting a career as a broodmare.

"She'll go to the Irwin, Sangster and Goodwood and that will be it," Dance said.

"She loves Adelaide."

Dance said there would not be a re-think even if Platelet wins The Goodwood.

"She's done enough," he said.
