Robbie Laing is hoping a trip to Sydney over the summer months hasn't had any long lasting effects on handy sprinter Boomwaa .
The three-year-old will be having his first outing for 13 weeks when he lines-up in theshark.com.au Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Boomwaa hasn't raced since finishing second to She's Clean in a benchmark 95 race over 1400m at Randwick on January 10.
The gelding pulled up with heat stress and Laing said if he had his time over again he would not have taken the three-year-old to Sydney.
"It was 40 degrees on the truck when I sent him up and he got there dehydrated," Laing said.
"The truck got lost on the way up. They go to Tarcutta and there's a fresh driver to run them through, but he didn't turn up.
"He left home at 4 o'clock on the Thursday afternoon and didn't get to Sydney until midday."
Instead Laing said he should have stayed at home and aimed the gelding at the Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 24.
"He ran one of the quickest 1200 metres ever run at Moonee Valley a couple of weeks before he went to Sydney," Laing said.
Laing said Boomwaa had taken benefit from a second placing in a Cranbourne 800m trial on March 23 and on the minimum of 54kg will be ridden by 3kg claiming apprentice Jake Bayliss.
"Barrier two and with the claim, if he begins well he should just about win," he said.
