Craig Williams is convinced Volkstok'n'barrell can go one better than the last Rosehill Guineas winner he rode in the Australian Derby.
Williams won the Rosehill Guineas in 2006 on De Beers but had to settle for second in the Australian Derby at Randwick behind Headturner.
"De Beers was very brilliant but couldn't stay," Williams said.
"It looked great at the 200 metres but the other horse was just too good.
"I'm really forward to riding Volkstok'n'barrell on Saturday. He looks like the right horse to be able to do it for me."
The Donna Logan-trained Volkstok'n'barrell was second to Mongolian Khan in the New Zealand Derby in February before attention shifted to the Sydney carnival.
Williams was impressed with Volkstok'n'barrell's Rosehill Guineas win over Preferment in his first ride on the horse.
The Melbourne jockey made the trip to Sydney on Tuesday to give Volkstok'n'barrell a work-out and said he had continued to thrive.
"You would usually think for a horse at this part of his preparation that's had to peak a couple of times, they would have to hold him together," Williams said.
"But that's not the case with him.
"He's thriving in Sydney and doing well and it looks like he's got more condition on him. He definitely hasn't taken a step back."
Volkstok'n'barrell is at $5 with Tulloch Stakes winner Hauraki the TAB's $3.20 favourite on Friday ahead of Victoria Derby winner Preferment at $3.80.
"He's going really well but you've still got respect for Preferment and I thought Godolphin's horse Hauraki was impressive on Saturday," Williams said.
"But I couldn't be happier with my horse."
Logan is also thrilled and a little surprised with how well Volkstok'n'barrell has coped with his first trip away from home.
"Until he came to Sydney he had never spent a night away from his own stable," Logan said.
"He has done so well. He is so laid-back and nothing has bothered him.
That's not the case for stablemate Rising Romance. The mare has battled a hoof problem which ruled her out of the BMW and now a temperature has forced her withdrawal from Saturday's Chairman's Handicap.
Volkstok'n'barrell is striving to become the third-straight Rosehill Guineas winner to claim the Derby with It's A Dundeel (2013) and Criterion completing the double.
