Racing Victoria stewards have opened an inquiry into the possible raceday treatment of a horse at Caulfield on Saturday.
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the Brendan McCarthy trained Zedi Knight from theshark.com.au Handicap (1100m) after receiving a report from RV's Compliance Assurance Team (CAT) following an inspection at the trainer's stables on race morning.
Acting chief steward Robert Cram said the CAT reported Zedi Knight had a puncture wound to its neck, indicating the horse may have received treatment.
Stewards took evidence from the CAT, RV's head vet Dr Brian Stewart and McCarthy and ordered swab samples from Zedi Knight.
The inquiry has been adjourned to a date to be fixed.
