Pat Carey always seems to have a handy stayer or two in his stable.
His four Group One victories to date have been achieved in distance races and he went within two lengths of claiming a fifth when Bikila finished fourth to Mongolian Khan in Monday's Australian Derby.
At Flemington on Saturday, Carey will be chasing more black type staying success when he saddles All I Survey in the Listed Galilee Series Final over 2500m.
The son of Domesday will be lining-up for his sixth start and is coming off an 1856m Terang maiden victory on March 23.
Carey is confident All I Survey will handle the extra distance on Saturday, and the class rise.
"He's stepping up to the staying trip for the first time but he's been brought along slowly and he's got a good base underneath him," Carey said.
"He looks a nice, scopey, progressive type of horse and he looks like he'll get over a bit of ground.
"I'm sure he'll run well."
Carey said he was surprised at the depth of quality horses in Saturday's race in which All I Survey will face 10 rivals.
They will all carry the same weight after handicaps had to be raised to 58kg when Magicool (60kg) and Dee I Cee (56kg) were not among the final acceptors.
In previous years, the Series Final has been run at Caulfield and has attracted bigger fields with Bring Something successful last year in a race that had a weight spread of 6kg.
"This race has been highly competitive over the last few years and has been a hard race to get a run in normally," Carey said.
Carey is using the Galilee Series Final as a stepping stone to either the VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington on Anzac Day or the South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville next month.
All I Survey will be ridden by Carey's stable jockey Rhys McLeod and the horse has opened a $3.80 favourite in pre-post markets.
Manapine is on the second line of betting at $4 with General James third pick at $4.60.
