Tom Hughes was again in the winner's enclosure at Flemington, making the most of his opportunities with a small team.
Hughes has a highly promising Lonhro colt on his hands after Black Vanquish scored in the Starlight Children's Foundation Handicap (1200m) on Saturday.
Last month, promising stayer Chill Party scored dual victories at Moonee Valley for Hughes, including the Group Two Alister Clark Stakes.
Hughes has always held a high opinion of Black Vanquish and threw the colt into the deep end on debut, contesting the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield in February before a break.
Ridden by in-form apprentice Patrick Moloney, Black Vanquish ($3.40 fav) returned with a two-length win from My Poppette ($6.50), with Zarabeel ($31) a further two lengths away.
" He's a lovely, lovely horse," Hughes said.
"I thought he'd do that, but they've still got to go out and do it."
Hughes will now take Black Vanquish to Caulfield on May 2 for the Redoute's Choice Stakes (1200m).
