Wide marble against Danuki in Gold Ingot

Thursday 16 April 2015, 4:25pm

Clinton McDonald rates Danuki a promising colt, but the trainer admits his chances of winning the VOBIS Gold Ingot at Caulfield have been dented by the barrier draw.

McDonald will wait until race morning to decide whether the two-year-old runs in Saturday's $150,000 race after he came up with the outside barrier in the capacity field.

Danuki, a winner at Donald on debut last month, is on the third line of betting and McDonald said the son of Exceed And Excel was a really nice colt.

"But obviously the draw is a big worry," McDonald said.

"It's very difficult to win from that barrier. We'll decide whether we run or don't run probably on race morning when we see what scratchings come out.

"He would want to be exceptional to win. They don't win from that barrier too often."

Danuki sat on speed and scored by 2-1/2 lengths in a maiden race over 1000m at Donald.
