The was one criteria Joe Pride had in mind when working out his team for Randwick and his three runners fit the bill.
"They're all good wet trackers and you can't beat that in these conditions," Pride said.
"That's what you've got to have."
Torrential rain and wild weather in Sydney this week has Randwick rated in the heavy range and it isn't expected to improve too much before Saturday.
They are conditions the Pride-trained Sense Of Occasion is expected to relish when he steps out in The Last Post Handicap (1600m).
The four-year-old is unbeaten on soft tracks and after struggling to produce his best form during the humid summer months, he bounced back with a midweek victory on rain-affected ground first-up.
He meets a handy field on Saturday headed by the Chris Waller-trained stablemates Intimate Moment and Telepathic but it is a test Pride says Sense Of Occasion needs.
The horse is being considered for carnival races in Scone and Brisbane and Randwick will be an important step.
"He's got to measure up to this grade now, which I think he can," Pride said.
"He's in really good order and I think we're going to see a different horse to what we saw when I gave him those first few runs in the late summer.
"He's travelling a lot differently now, he's in really in good order."
Pride also believes new acquisition Missvonn can turn her most recent form on its head when she resumes against stablemate Proper Madam in The Bluebird Nurses Handicap.
The mare was stakes placed on heavy ground as an autumn three-year-old then failed to fire in three runs during the spring.
"She ran a good second to Arabian Gold in the Adrian Knox on a heavy so she's got a bit of form at the track and in the ground," Pride said.
"I reckon she will run well right from the start of the prep.
"Proper Madam likes the ground and she ran a good race fresh last time so I'd expect her to run well too."
Australian Turf Club spokesman Lindsay Murphy said Randwick had coped well despite the deluge.
"It will be a heavy track but it will be fine," Murphy said.
