Gollan cautious about aging sprint star

Friday 24 April 2015, 12:26pm

Trainer Tony Gollan admits Temple Of Boom is in the twilight of his career as the veteran sprinter embarks on another campaign, starting with a defence of the Victory Stakes.

Temple Of Boom is one of three runners Gollan will have in Saturday's Group Two sprint at the Gold Coast.

After he won last year's race, Temple Of Boom ran fourth in the Group One BTC Cup and second in the Group One Doomben 10,000 and Group One Stradbroke Handicap.

The rising nine-year-old, winner of the 2012 Galaxy, been back in work for eight weeks and will follow a similar path this year.

"I don't really know what to expect on Saturday. He usually races well fresh but he is not getting any younger," Gollan said.

He is expecting another of his runners in Alma's Fury to race well but believes he will be improved by the run.

"Alma's Fury is going as well as when we took him to Melbourne last year. He is a class horse but he does get better with racing," Gollan said.

The third of Gollan's runners is Rocket To Glory who has won his past two starts at the Gold Coast and Doomben.

"He is working as well as he was before his past two wins," Gollan said.

"You know what you will get with him - a horse who can run fast time."

Gollan will also have a strong hand in the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas with Traveston Girl, Feel Like Home and Bear Skin.

"Traveston Girl showed her class when second in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield last year," Gollan said.

"She has had a good spell and we deliberately missed the Sydney carnival to give her every chance for the winter.

"I have a lot of time for Bear Skin and Feels Like Home who are also promising."
