3yo Denman gelding Denman Flyer posted his second win for Blueblood Thoroughbreds today, taking out the 6th race on the card at Queanbeyan. Ridden by regular jockey apprentice Rachael Murray, Denman Flyer flew out of the gates to take up the running from barrier 6.
Rachael Murray looked to have made use of him in the early stages of the race but when interviewed after the race she said, “The horse has just got this brilliant gate speed and he hit the ground running. That wasn’t any dig; that was just sit there quiet. He does that himself.”
Denman Flyer always looked to be travelling well heading into the home straight and responded well when Murray gave him to go ahead.
“It was a good tough win for him. I think he found the 1200m just a bit testing up the hill but in all seriousness he went good,” Murray said.
It was Denman Flyer’s second win out of three starts this preparation, with the other run being a close second.
Michael Costa stated in his pre-race comments, “He is now very fit and this looks to be an ideal race for him. If Denman Flyer can replicate either of his first two runs he should be very competitive in tomorrow’s field”.
It has been a great preparation for all the connections, especially as his future was once in doubt with a disappointing start to his career.
He will be sent straight to the paddock now to give him a freshen up and to also continue to build more condition.
Congratulations to all the connections in Denman Flyer.
