A trip to Brisbane goes on the line for the lightly raced filly Payroll at Caulfield.
The Richard Laming-trained two-year-old will be having her third race start when she lines up in the $120,000 Thoroughbred Club Cup (1200m) on Saturday.
Jockey Michael Cahill makes the trip from Brisbane to partner the filly with the intention of sticking with the daughter of Not A Single Doubt if she heads to Brisbane for the winter carnival.
A win, or a solid performance, will see Laming head north with Payroll to contest two of Brisbane's feature two-year-old races, the Group Two BTC Sires' Produce Stakes on May 23 followed by the Group One JJ Atkins on June 6.
With Eagle Farm undergoing a track renovation, both races will be run at Doomben.
Payroll has had her task made tougher after drawing barrier 13 in a 14-horse field which includes two emergency acceptors.
Of the 14 runners, six are last-start winners including Black Vanquish, Pearl Star, Strindberg, Stalwart, Badajoz and Cool Snitzel.
But Laming takes heart from the filly's debut win over The Barrister at Sale on March 11 when ridden by Jason Benbow.
Following that race The Barrister went on to record victories at Mornington and Randwick before running fifth behind Pasadena Girl in the Champagne Stakes at Randwick on April 18.
At her only other outing Payroll finished fifth behind Last Bullet in the Breeders Stakes at Morphettville on March 28.
Laming said Payroll should be unbeaten going into Saturday's race because the breaks didn't go her way in Adelaide.
"She won well at Sale and then was very unlucky at her next start," he said.
"The ride wasn't the best I didn't think and if she had of got out she clearly would have won."
