An important weight claim and a favourable barrier have given trainer Greg Eurell confidence Hosting can bounce back to winning form at Caulfield.
To be ridden by 3kg claiming apprentice Jessica Payne, Hosting lines up in Saturday's Changing Places Real Estate Handicap (1440m).
A five-year-old gelding by Chilean-bred sire Host, Hosting has so far struggled to recapture the form he showed during a successful spring campaign.
Payne rode the gelding to victory in a benchmark 90 race at Sandown in late September before Kerrin McEvoy guided him to victory in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield during Cup week.
Hosting has had three runs in his latest campaign and while disappointed he hasn't won, Eurell says the signs are positive with his latest run suggesting that success is not far away.
Eurell said he could offer no explanation for the gelding's two disappointing performances at Flemington before he finished 2-1/2 lengths away from the winner Watermans Bay when eighth in the Group Three Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on April 4.
"It's strange with him. He's either red-hot or not," Eurell said.
"He's just one of those horses and when he's on song he's terrific and Saturday's race looks ideal for him.
"Certainly with the claim, the barrier (2) and the fact he usually races very well for us at Caulfield, we're hoping he bounces back and gets the right opportunity."
With Payne's claim Hosting will carry 54.5kg, just 0.5kg more than he carried in the Victoria Handicap.
Hosting was at $9 with the TAB on Thursday with last-start Caulfield winner Red Bomber the $3.80 favourite.
Eurell will be in Adelaide on Saturday to watch $21 chance Redasun contest the Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.
Fellow Melbourne filly Fontein Ruby heads the betting at $3.80 for the Group One race.
"She's fit but we've got a horror draw (18) which doesn't help us, but she's spot on and deserves her opportunity," Eurell said.
Redasun may head to Brisbane for the Queensland Oaks following Saturday's race.
