Double up for Dee on Red Bomber

Saturday 2 May 2015, 6:01pm

Former New Zealand apprentice Michael Dee has earned high praise from his boss Mick Price after his first Saturday metropolitan double at Caulfield.

After winning on Second Bullet for Danny O'Brien, Dee guided the Price-trained Red Bomber to victory in the Changing Places Real Estate Handicap (1440m).

"It's a huge thrill," Dee said.

Dee began a stint in Australia with Price in January and landed a winner at his first ride for the stable at Moonee Valley.

Saturday's double brought his Australian tally to 16 to go with his 107 in New Zealand.

Price said Dee showed maturity beyond his years and didn't panic after getting a lot further back than expected.

"We knew there would be pace on and I thought he'd be third or fourth, but this kid thinks," Price said.

"He's out there making decisions that senior jockeys make."

Price said he would now consider a trip to the Brisbane winter carnival with Red Bomber.

He said it might be hard to keep the gelding going for the Winter Plate Series in Melbourne.

"The owner Mrs Hoare breeds from Hanover Fist (the dam) so it would be nice if he could chase a little bit of black type," Price said.

"I'll speak to her about maybe going to Brisbane with him and look for some nice races there as he'll be a high rated handicapping horse here now."
