Malua Racing has called on the services of in-form apprentice Michael Dee to partner improving mare Flying Aurora at Flemington.
Troy Corstens, who prepares the mare in partnership with his father Leon, said Dee's 2kg claim would ensure Flying Aurora was well placed in the Mother's Day Handicap (2000m) on Saturday.
A last-start Geelong winner under Damien Oliver, Flying Aurora will carry 54.5kg on Saturday, a half kilogram above the minimum.
Dee has struck a purple patch of form since his arrival from New Zealand at the start of the year and landed a double at the Caulfield meeting last Saturday.
He has a full book of nine rides at Flemington including More Radiant and Worth A Ransom for top trainer Mick Price.
Flying Aurora has won two of her past three starts including the Geelong victory on April 29 when she charged home to record an easy 3-1/2 length win over Rich River in a benchmark 70 race over 1700m.
Corstens said only a poor blood result would stop the mare from running on Saturday.
"We'll take a blood from her on Thursday to make sure all is okay with her then it's full steam ahead," Corstens said.
"She comes in quite nicely with the claim I think, and she's one of those mares that are in form.
"Importantly, it doesn't look an over-strong race."
While Corstens has faith in Flying Aurora's ability, he does admit she is a query at the distance.
The Flemington race will be the first time she has been tested beyond 1700 metres.
"That's a little question mark but the way she settled and finished off the other day, it doesn't look like it will be too far for her," Corstens said.
Flying Aurora has drawn barrier one in the 11-horse field and is one of only three last-start winners in the race.
The Luke Oliver-trained Statute is aiming for a hat-trick of wins while Cinnamon Carter is coming off a maiden victory at Cranbourne.
