Time is against Bachman as he heads to the Queensland Derby but his trainer Gerald Ryan believes he has the talent to overcome a hiccup to his campaign.
The colt runs in the rescheduled Group Three Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday, a week after the race was washed out at the provincial track.
"The Guineas is the next stepping stone to the Derby but being a week later we will have to look at how we get there depending on how he goes," Ryan said.
"He could run in the Sunshine Coast Guineas next week then a 1600-metre Listed race two weeks later, a week before the Derby.
"It has thrown his program out a bit."
Stablemate Brewery will step out in a traditional lead-up to the Group One race on June 6, when he runs in Saturday's Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben.
"We are playing it by ear with him. If he shows he can run a strong 2000 metres then he will head there but I would really like the track to dry out a bit."
An accident on the water walker on race eve thwarted Bachman's bid for the Victoria Derby in the spring.
This year's Queensland Derby has been shortened from 2400 to 2200 metres because of the track change from Eagle Farm to Doomben which Ryan says in the stablemates' favour.
The trainer has opted not to run talented filly Ygritte in the Hawkesbury Guineas, preferring to save her for the Scone Guineas a week later.
"She had a jump-out and she is ready to go next week," he said.
Ryan will have two runners - Solicit and Peace Force - in the Group Three Darley Crown, the other race saved from Hawkesbury and added to the Rosehill program.
Both mares will be out to reserve their places on the float to Brisbane with the Group One Tatt's Tiara at the Gold Coast on June 20 the target.
