Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie will be out to upstage Gai Waterhouse in a rematch between Col `N' Lil and Bohemian Lily at Doomben.
Col 'N' Lil, one of the smallest horses in work in Queensland, is expected to stake a claim for the Oaks in Saturday's Listed Princess Stakes (2000m).
The filly has won three of her 10 starts and been placed in a further five but it has been her past two runs which have caught the eye.
She ran second to Sheiswhatsheis in a 1630m race at Doomben on April 11 before another second two weeks later to the Waterhouse-trained Bohemian Lily in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet.
Currie believes there is a case to claim Col `N' Lil should have won both.
"There was a lot of publicity about Sheiswhatsheis's jockey losing her whip at the 200 metres. But Luke (Tarrant) lost his as well," Currie said.
"I think we lost more momentum in the end.
"It should have been a lot closer and I think my filly will really appreciate getting out to the middle distances."
Currie is undecided whether Col 'N' Lil will progress to the Doomben Roses in a fortnight as a final lead-up to the Oaks on May 30.
"She isn't very big and we might be able to go straight into the Oaks," Currie said.
Col 'N' Lil is raced by Toowoomba dentist Kim McCasker who has had many good horses including the 1999 Doomben 10,000 winner Laurie's Lottery while Bohemian Lily's New Zealand owner Kevin Hickman also has Silent Achiever engaged in the Doomben Cup on Saturday.
