Blake Shinn has joined an elite group of jockeys and also created a record with his five-win haul at Doomben.
Shinn became the ninth jockey in 150 years of Brisbane racing to ride five winners at a meeting when he was victorious aboard Sadlers Lake, I've Got The Looks, Charlie Boy, Pornichet and Hot Snitzel.
He joined Chris Munce, Jim Byrne, Mick Dittman, Brian York, Graham Cook, Russell Maddock, Mike Pelling, Ivan Wernowski and Bill Briscoe on the honour board.
Dittman holds the Brisbane record of six wins on a seven event card at Eagle Farm on November 1, 1977.
But Shinn is the only jockey to ride five stakes winners at a Brisbane meeting with his winners highlighted by the Group One double of the Doomben Cup (Pornichet) and the BTC Cup (Hot Snitzel).
His other wins were the Group Three Darley Sprint (Charlie Boy), the Group Three Rough Habit Plate (Sadlers Lake), and the Listed Juanmo Stakes (I've Got The Looks).
Shinn, who has had an up and down career since winning the 2008 Melbourne Cup on Viewed, was thrilled with his effort and in particular to ride two Group One winners.
"I've never ridden five winners in a day and obviously to do it on such a big day is an even bigger thrill," Shinn said.
Shinn won last year's Doomben Cup on Streama for his close friend, trainer Guy Walter, who died suddenly a few days later.
"It's great to win the Doomben Cup again. Obviously I've got great memories of winning last year for Guy and I hope he was watching from somewhere," Shinn said.
His Group One double took him to five in elite company this season, three behind fellow Sydney rider Hugh Bowman.
Gai Waterhouse moved into second place on the Group One trainers' list for the season when Pornichet gave her No.7 in the Doomben Cup.
Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller has a seemingly unassailable lead on 11 with Group One races left in Adelaide and Brisbane this season.
