The Wow Signal retired to stud

Wednesday 13 May 2015, 7:37am

Injury has ended the racing career of The Wow Signal who will stand at Swettenham Stud in Australia this spring.

The colt is a son of Starspangledbanner, a Group One winner in Australia and Europe.

After the southern hemisphere season, The Wow Signal will return to Europe to stand at Sheikh Joaan's Haras de Bouquetot stud in France for the 2016 season.

The John Quinn-trained colt won the Coventry Stakes and Prix Morny during his juvenile campaign and was being prepared for the 2000 Guineas before meeting with an injury setback.

"We are very sad that The Wow Signal has had to be retired. It is always disappointing when a horse like this is prevented from reaching his full potential," Harry Herbert, racing advisor to the sheikh's Al Shaqab Racing, said.

The Wow Signal is from the first crop by Starspangledbanner whose books of mares are limited because of his fertility problems.

Starspangledbanner stands at Rosemont Stud in Victoria and Coolmore in Ireland.
