Tegan Harrison is determined to make the most of her ride on Skylimit in the Sunshine Coast Guineas for her role model Gai Waterhouse.
Harrison is fourth in the Brisbane jockeys' premiership on 42 winners and is reaping the rewards for her hard work with a top book of rides on Saturday.
She rode the three-year-old half brother to 2013 Golden Slipper winner Overreach when he finished second in the Toowoomba Guineas two weeks ago.
"I know a lot of the top jockeys have gone to Scone but to retain the ride for Mrs Waterhouse is a great boost," Harrison said.
"I had one ride for her last winter and finished third, so hopefully I can make it a winner on Saturday," Harrison said.
Harrison makes no secret about the admiration she has for Waterhouse.
"Racing is a tough business and you have to be pretty hard. But at the same time you can be ladylike and I like to use Mrs Waterhouse as an example of how you can do both," Harrison said.
"Her being a woman and a trainer and me being a woman and a jockey, I can line things up and see how she does it first hand."
The former champion apprentice is so determined to make it as a senior rider she has given up a chance to work in England for three months as part of a prize she won as a leading apprentice.
"I really appreciated the offer but I think if I had gone away I would have lost contact with a lot of trainers who are supporting me," Harrison said.
Meanwhile, trainer John Zielke is confident Guineas favourite Worthy Cause can win and go on to take the Queensland Derby (2200m) on June 6.
He said the rails draw was perfect for Worthy Cause.
Worthy Cause will have his final lead-up to the Derby in the Group Three Grand Prix on Saturday week.
