As unlikely as it seems given his domination of Australian racing, Chris Waller has just as much incentive as any trainer going into the second day of the Scone Cup carnival.
Clearly the best trainer in Sydney for the past five seasons, Waller has not been a force during the Scone carnival.
There have been wins in support races and while he has trained Scone Cup placegetters, his run of outs continued on Friday when Strawberry Boy ran unplaced after leading in this year's edition.
Waller will be out to correct the anomaly in two stakes races on Saturday.
In Calming Influence, Mamwaazel and All Cerise, he has the most runners of any trainer in the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) as he tries to go one better than Pipette's runner-up finish two years ago.
"Calming Influence and Mamwaazel are proven at this level and All Cerise is the one we are trying to get up to stakes status and she has drawn the best of the three," Waller said.
"They will need a bit of luck to win but they are capable on their day."
Waller will start Miss Antaeus and Helsingor in the Listed Woodlands Stakes while four runners in the Cressfield Handicap, a benchmark race for stayers, could be down to two at scratching time.
