Apprentice Jye McNeil and country horse Play Master have continued their successful association with victory at Caulfield.
The pair combined in the ALH Group Plate (1000m), landing their fourth city success in the past 10 months.
Backed from $9.50 to $7, Play Master got up on the fence to score a long neck victory over the $2.30 favourite Angels Beach with Trevinder, backed from $9 to $4.20, a length away third.
McNeil and Play Master first combined to score on the Sandown Lakeside circuit in July last year before a Flemington success followed in August.
Play Master resumed in December with a first-up win under McNeil, his last victory before Saturday's success.
"He's been very good to me and I'm glad I could get the job done on him today," McNeil said.
Trainer Peter Smith said he was disappointed Play Master was beaten in the Town Plate at Wagga at his last start after being held up from the 600m to the 180m, saying with clear running he would have won.
The Benalla-based Smith now plans to head to the three-day Swan Hill carnival for the Golden Topaz (1200m) on June 5 with the six-year-old.
"Pray for rain at Swan Hill," Smith said.
"It can be a bit of a dry area up there but if we get rain, he'll win."
