Riva De Lago back in winner's list

Saturday 16 May 2015, 5:02pm

Robert Heathcote's confidence the out-of-form Riva De Lago could return to the winner's list has rewarded the trainer with his 50th stakes success.

Riva De Lago ($26) got an inside run to beat the heavily backed favourite Time For War ($3.20) by 1-1/4 lengths in Saturday's Listed Glasshouse Hcp (1300m).

The gelding had not won since the Group Two Theo Marks Quality at Rosehill in September 2013 for Sydney's premier trainer Chris Waller.

Riva De Lago was sold by a syndicate headed by Cameron Bennett of Superior Racing and sent to Heathcote at Eagle Farm.

Heathcote said he had been confident Riva De Lago could get back to his best form in the Glasshouse.

"At his first run for us last year he ran a great race but his next two were ordinary. So we gave him a spell and brought him back," Heathcote said.

"He had a jump-out last week and went sensationally. I thought to my self that he would run a whole lot better and I was right."

Riva De Lago is nominated for both the Group One Doomben 10,000 and Group One Stradbroke Handicap.

Heathcote admitted he thought he could reach the 50 mark with Volkhere in the Caloundra Cup but the gelding was well beaten.

"It is always nice to reach a milestone and I hope there are a few more," he said.

Time For War kept his Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke hopes alive with his second after being attacked in the lead.
