Apprentice Tom Sadler has been sidelined with a broken leg following an innocuous fall at trackwork.
A day after recording his first metropolitan Saturday double at Caulfield on May 2, Sadler was tipped off one of his trainer father John's horses at Caulfield in a simple fall, fracturing his left fibula.
Sadler says he will be out of the saddle for seven weeks as the injury heals.
He said it was hard to fathom such a simple fall could put him on the sidelines for so long.
Last November, Sadler was involved in a much worse incident at Moonee Valley when Massiyn collapsed of a heart attack leaving the home straight in a 2040m race.
Sadler luckily escaped serious injury and was back riding less than two weeks later.
"I've a bad fall at Moonee Valley, got kicked a couple of times and a couple of days later I'm basically all right," Sadler said.
"This latest fall we were basically walking back when the horse shied. I landed awkwardly and now I'll be out for seven weeks.
"How does that work?"
Sadler, who has battled weight problems this season, has ridden 37 winners and was on track to better the 50 winners he rode two seasons ago.
