Brazen Beau wins barrier trial

Monday 18 May 2015, 4:10pm

The ever-meticulous Chris Waller has crossed one more "t" in his preparation of Royal Ascot-bound Brazen Beau.

The colt won a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill on Monday morning, pleasing his trainer with his performance.

"Everything is going to plan," Waller said.

"He will go to Melbourne next for a jump-out down the straight on Friday week before he travels to England on the third of June with Shamal Wind."

The winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Newmarket Handicap, Brazen Beau will contest one or both of the Group One sprints at the Royal meeting as will Oakleigh Plate winner Shamal Wind.

Brazen Beau has not raced since the Newmarket in March but has been working in a country environment ahead of his return to the stable.

"He has been doing plenty of uphill work to simulate the undulating tracks in England," Waller said.

"It is part of the plan to make sure he is properly prepared.

"We know he is good enough, we just have to make sure he is prepared the best he can be.

"The challenge is making sure he has done the work here and getting him over there in the best condition possible."

A 70,000 yearling, Brazen Beau has won his syndicate of owners more than $1.4 million as well as a lucrative stud deal with Sheikh Mohammed's Darley.

He will race in the gold colours of Grant Morgan's Ontrack Thoroughbreds in England and stand at stud in the Australian spring.

The Robert Smerdon-trained Shamal Wind is expected to remain in England to be served by a European stallion to southern hemisphere time.
