The horse with the best winning streak going into Canterbury will have to travel more than five hours to extend it - if he makes the trip at all.

Dubbo-trained Leaders Road will be trying to make it four wins on end and five from his past six starts in the TAB Place Multi Handicap on Wednesday.

But Dar Lunn, still on a high after training his first metropolitan winner during the Scone Cup carnival, says one of the true iron horse's of bush racing will need an improving track to justify a long float trip from western NSW.

"He doesn't really like the wet so there will have to be an upgrade to run him," the former jockey said.

Canterbury's reputation as a racetrack which copes with wet weather better than any other in Sydney will give Lunn a chance to prove Leaders Road's Scone success was only a shock to those not associated with his stable.

"I thought he definitely wasn't a forty-dollar chance and at one stage he was going to look like he would be in the money," Lunn said.

"As it worked out, things fell into place for him and it was a huge thrill because it was my first metropolitan win as a trainer."

Leaders Road's winning sequence has involved apprentice jockeys and Samantha Clenton will continue the trend at Canterbury after Sophie Young did the riding at Scone.

"I'm a firm believer in using city jockeys on city tracks and country jockeys on bush tracks," Lunn said.

"Samantha has ridden a few winners for me and she is riding a lot in the city these days."

Leaders Road will clash with another Scone carnival winner in Makeadane, a three-year-old trained by John Thompson which stretches out to a middle distance for the first time.

Makeadane ran up to a promising Warwick Farm return to win a 1600m race at Scone and is the early favourite to make it two in a row.

Press Statement promises to be one of the shortest-priced runners on the card in the Tab.com.au Handicap as the unbeaten two-year-old puts a trip to Brisbane for the Group One JJ Atkins start on the line.

And the meeting will feature the Australian return of leading New Zealand apprentice Rory Hutchings who has three rides for Chris Waller.
