California Chrome ramps up for Ascot

Thursday 28 May 2015, 7:38am

Frankie Dettori is set to partner California Chrome in a racecourse gallop at Ascot ahead of his engagement at the Royal meeting.

The 2013 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner has been at Rae Guest's Newmarket stable since shortly after his second to Prince Bishop in the Dubai World Cup in March.

The four-year-old is being prepared for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and trainer Art Sherman's son, Alan, will fly in from the United States for next week's gallop.

"California Chrome's progress continues with the start of Royal Ascot less than three weeks away," a report on Guest's website said.

"Rae is very happy with his work. He has been making use of Newmarket's watered gallop in recent weeks. This gallop runs adjacent to Newmarket's famous Rowley Mile racecourse.

"Alan Sherman flies over on June 2 to check on Chrome's progress and the imminent plan is to go to Ascot for a racecourse gallop on June 4 or 5.

"Frankie Dettori will ride him in his gallop there as long as his existing commitments allow."
