Two Melbourne wins have earned Durendal another interstate trip and the chance to become the latest stakes winner in his family.
The three-year-old is one of the leading fancies for Saturday's Listed Queensland Day Plate (1200m) at Doomben and co-trainer Simon Zahra says the gelding has settled in well after arriving in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Durendal is out of Razor Blade which has already produced three stakes winners, headlined by recent Group One Goodwood victor Flamberge.
Unplaced at his black type debut in Adelaide last month, Durendal has since strung together two strong wins at Caulfield to earn another shot at stakes grade.
"Last time in he wasn't quite coping with his racing and buttering up again, but this time he's coping really well," Zahra said.
"He went to Adelaide and came back again and put together a couple of good wins so he's in good form and at the top of his game for Saturday."
Zahra said Durendal appeared to handle the clockwise direction in two gallops in Melbourne.
"So as long as he handles Doomben I think he'll be very competitive," he said.
Durendal, to be ridden by Craig Williams, has worn blinkers in all nine starts and Zahra says the headgear won't be coming off any time soon.
"He's a very lazy trackworker but the blinkers switch him on which is why he's worn them for most of his life," he said.
