Act Of Valour gave trainer John Moloney a perfect day at the races in winning at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
While his nephew, apprentice jockey Patrick Moloney, was collecting the second leg of a running double aboard Act Of Valour in the Thanks Bellajinsky Handicap (1500m), Moloney was able to head home content with saddling up one runner for one winner.
Backed from $7.50 into $6, Act Of Valour scored a 1-3/4 length victory from the favourite Manhattan Avenue ($4) with Recalulate ($5) 1-3/4 lengths away third.
Act Of Valour's victory was his third success from six starts and Moloney was unconcerned about the rise in journey from 1200m to 1500m as the three-year-old's granddam Lisa's Game ran second in a Caulfield Cup.
Moloney praised the winning ride of his nephew.
"I'll give Patrick a rap today because I gave him a kick up the tail last time," Moloney said.
"I thought he rode him too cold and the horse didn't have much of a chance but if he could ride him a good race today he could get close.
"It has always been my feeling that he would go out to a distance and he relished it today."
Patrick Moloney has a strong affinity with Act Of Valour, riding him in trackwork as well as in the horse's three wins.
