Press Statement delivers for Waller in G1

Saturday 6 June 2015, 2:34pm

Trainer Chris Waller believes the hard work is over with unbeaten two-year-old Press Statement who gave him his 14th Group One winner for the season on Saturday.

Waller said he could now enjoy the rest of Press Statement's career after the colt won the Group One JJ Atkins at Doomben on Saturday.

Press Statement ($6.50) fought on well to beat Sagaronne ($14) by 3/4 length with 1-1/4 lengths to Look To The Stars ($9) in third place.

Waller has a high opinion of Press Statement who is a half-brother to Pressday, a colt he trained to win the 2010 Atkins.

"The family has been good to me and I think there is more to come in the spring. The hard part was getting him to the race today," Waller said.

"He was a maiden when he won his first start at the end of April. He has now had three starts for three wins and has gone from kindergarten to a Group One win."

Waller said there were several options for Press Statement.

"There is the Caulfield Guineas in the spring or who knows he might be a horse for the Stradbroke Handicap up here next year," he said.

"The spring should be easier for us because it wasn't until he won last Saturday in Sydney that we decided to definitely bring him up here."

Winning jockey Tye Angland is also a huge fan of Press Statement who he rates as potentially among the best horses he has ridden.

"I rode him in a trial and said he was a potential Group horse. Thankfully he has proved me right," Angland said.

Jockey Blake Shinn also predicted a bright future for Sagaronne who finished strongly in the final 200m.

"She ran second to a very good horse today and I think she is very promising. I think she will be up to spring carnival horses," Shinn said.

Luke Tarrant said his mount Look To The Stars had got back further than he had wanted but had tried hard in the straight.

Cylinder Beach ran home strongly from last to finish fourth a nose behind Look To the Stars.
