Group One racing awaits Jabali

Sunday 7 June 2015, 5:42pm

Now Jabali is a maiden no more, his trainer Mick Price hopes he can fulfil his potential at Group One level.

One of the most high profile maiden gallopers in Australia until Saturday, Jabali finally broke through for his first win at Doomben on Saturday.

Price hopes the Group Two success in the Queensland Guineas will lead to Jabali to the highest level.

The Melbourne trainer is looking to the spring for Group One riches with the son of Exceed And Excel.

Price hopes success in either the Toorak Handicap or the Emirates Stakes in the spring will give Jabali a shot as a future stallion.

"I would like to give him a breather and bring him back and win the Toorak or the Emirates and those sorts of nice races as a four-year-old," Price said.

"We did the same with Red Dazzler and he won the Toorak in his year and it would sign a home for him (Jabali) at stud."

Not long after his second placing to Earthquake in last year's Blue Diamond Stakes, Eliza Park International and Sun Bloodstock bought into the colt as a stallion proposition.

Jabali was having his 14th start on Saturday having registered five second placings, including two in maiden races at Geelong and Werribee at the start of his current campaign.

While some trainers might not have persevered with the three-year-old, Price has kept faith in the colt's ability.

"He should be a winner and it was good to see him frank his ability," Price said.

"Sometimes you have to persevere if you believe in your horse.

"I was just glad to see the horse win a Group Two and hopefully now we can get a Group One."
