Najoom proves fitness in Gold Coast trial

Tuesday 9 June 2015, 2:17pm

Star Sydney filly Najoom showed she had recovered from a minor injury with a runaway win in a barrier trial at the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

Najoom had been favourite for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap on Saturday after she won the Fred Best Classic at Doomben.

Connections paid a late entry for the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly but she was not a final acceptor after she suffered a minor laceration during the week.

However, Waterhouse decided to leave the filly in Queensland for the Group One Tatt's Tiara at the Gold Coast on June 20.

Najoom took on open-class sprinters over 1000m in the Gold Coast barrier trial.

Ridden Tommy Berry, Najoom sat second last to the home turn and then zoomed away to beat Group-placed galloper Final Crescendo by three lengths.

Najoom ran 57.99 seconds, nearly a second faster than any other 1000m trial.

Meanwhile, chief steward Alan Reardon said he had been told apprentice Luke Tarrant's appeal aginst a six-week suspension for reckless riding was expected to be heard on June 26.

Tarrant is riding on a stay of proceedings after being suspended on May 26.
