Pop 'N' Scotch will get a chance to improve on his second in last year 's Queensland Cup after returning to form at Ipswich on Saturday.
Pop 'N' Scotch ($9) gave trainer Liam Birchley a winning double when he came from last to win the $100,000 Winter Provincial Stayers Final (2150m).
The gelding was owned by Nathan Tinkler when he ran second as a three-year-old to Iggy Pop in the 2014 Queensland Cup (3200m).
Pop 'N' Scotch was sold to clients of Birchley but had struggled to reach his best form until Saturday's win.
"We gave him a good long spell and it has taken him time to reach his best," Birchley said.
"I am sure he can go on to win a good race and he really needs longer than the 2150 metres of today's race."
Rock Royalty was Birchley's first winner in taking out the Ipswich Dash (1100m).
"He has been really consistent this campaign and we might even look the Grafton Ramornie next month," Birchley said.
Rock Royalty is raced by a syndicate which includes famous rugby league brothers Shane, Chris and Ben Walker.
