Imported stayer Kapour will chase his first Australian win this weekend in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Victorian trainer Ciaron Maher has Kapour nominated for Saturday's Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill and also the heat of the Banjo Paterson Series (2500m) at Flemington.

The gelding will be chasing his first win in Australia.

"He appreciates a bit of cut in the track. We'll have a look at both races," Maher said.

"We'll just have a look at the fields and the weather and weigh it all up."

Sydney's recent rain has softened the tracks and is behind the decision to nominate Kapour for Rosehill.

Kapour finished well back in two spring starts last year and has raced twice so far this campaign in Melbourne.

Most recently, he was beaten just under five lengths in a 2040m Open handicap at Moonee Valley and is yet to race beyond that distance in Australia.

The gelding was a Listed winner in France over 2000 metres and also race second over 2400 metres in another Listed race.

"He gives us every indication he's just a real genuine stayer," Maher said.

"His two runs in this time have been good so out to that trip, hopefully he can start to hit some form."

Maher sent Kapour around in a 2400m hurdle trial at Cranbourne last week but says there are no plans to send him over the jumps.

"I just used it as a gallop really," Maher said.

"I just thought it fitted in well and I thought he needed a nice hit-out. It can really bring them on sometimes too."

The Listed Winter Cup has attracted 13 nominations including seven from the stable of premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller while there are 28 entries for the Banjo Paterson Series heat.

Maher has had a successful month with stable star Srikandi winning two Group One races in Queensland.

The mare added Saturday's Tattersall's Tiara to her Stradbroke Handicap win earlier this month.
