Geelong win gives Weir new personal best

Tuesday 23 June 2015, 5:51pm

The victory of Pont Royale at Geelong on Tuesday has provided Darren Weir with career-best training figures.

Pont Royale was Weir's 254th winner Australia-wide for the season, eclipsing his previous best set in 2013-2014 when he topped 200 winners for the first time.

Weir easily leads the Australian premiership over champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller.

But he is in a tighter battle in the Melbourne premiership, holding holding a five-win lead over Peter Moody with 10 meetings left.

Weir trained 86 Melbourne winners last year in claiming his first metropolitan trainers' title.

This season has also been Weir's best at Group One level with Lucky Hussler and Trust In A Gust providing him with three wins.
