Metropolitan areas to get live Vic racing

Friday 26 June 2015, 6:26am

Seven West Media is set to begin free-to-air broadcasting of Victorian racing.

In an interim agreement with Racing Victoria, Friday's Pakenham meeting will be transmitted on digital channel 78 in the metropolitan areas of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Country viewers will need to wait as Racing Victoria and Seven work on getting the coverage into regional areas.

Victorian racing has been in a television blackout since Sky Channel discontinued coverage on June 16.

Channel 78 will re-tranmsit the existing coverage of racing.com.

The interim broadcasting arrangement is in preparation for Seven's premium coverage which begins with the first Group One meeting of the new season at Caulfield on August 29.

Racing Victoria is continuing talks with the TAB-owned Sky to get Victorian racing back on the wall-to-wall coverage in pubs and clubs as well Foxtel channels 519 and 520.
