Richard Jolly decided against a Sir John Monash Stakes start for Karacatis but stablemate Hioctdane will try to continue a winning streak when he ventures interstate to run at Caulfield.
Karacatis was nominated for Saturday's Group Three weight-for-age race over 1100m at Caulfield but Adelaide-based trainer Jolly did not accept with the sprinter.
Jolly will start 2013 South Australian Derby runner-up Hioctdane in the Spicer Thoroughbreds Handicap (2000m) at the Melbourne meeting.
The five-year-old gelding is aiming for five straight wins after putting together a winning streak in South Australia.
"He's in pretty good form. I'm not sure how to line him up against the Melbourne form but you can't knock the way he's going at the moment," Jolly said.
"It's been well documented that as a three-year-old he raced really well but then just sort of lost his way a bit after that.
"There was nothing wrong with him, I think it was just more a mental thing.
"He came off a good break and has just got a bit of confidence back again this campaign."
Jolly said Hioctdane was enjoying his racing, as evidenced by the way he has pulled up after his recent wins.
"On the Monday after he's raced he's been bucking and squealing and you wouldn't know he had, had a run," Jolly said.
"I think he's enjoying his racing and I think he appreciates tracks with a bit of the sting out of them."
Hioctdane is at $15 with last-start Moonee Valley winner Word Of Mouth a clear-cut favourite at $2.20.
Dwayne Dunn will ride Hioctdane.
Dunn won aboard the Jolly-trained Alcohol at Moonee Valley on June 20.
Jolly said Karacatis was likely to run in a sprint race at Gawler on Saturday week.
