Former New Zealand apprentice Bridget Grylls celebrated her first year in Queensland racing with a win aboard Shotacross The Bow at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
But her day was later soured when she was suspended for causing interference in another race.
Shotacross the Bow ($17) came from well back to beat Real Good ($4.60) by 2-3/4 lengths in the Rent To Own Cars Handicap.
Grylls, the daughter of top New Zealand jockey Gary Grylls, hasn't looked back since joining Eagle Farm trainer Barry Lockwood.
She has ridden 55-1/2 winners, including 40-1/2 at metropolitan meetings.
"It has been a great 12 months and I have really enjoyed it here," Grylls said.
"I have a year to go in my apprenticeship so I intend to stay on here."
Winning trainer David Murphy is also looking forward to the future with Shotacross The Bow.
Murphy, who was a leading apprentice in the mid 1980s before weight got the better of him, rides Shotacross The Bow in his work.
"He is a lovely horse and I think he will make a nice stayer," Murphy said.
Grylls was suspended for seven meetings for her ride on Gallinari in the Montrose Handicap.
Her suspension will start next Saturday night and she will miss two weeks of racing.
A return to her usual racing pattern helped the Trevor Thomas-trained mare Ellawisdom ($12) beat stablemate Get On ($17) by three-quarters of a length in the Montrose Handicap.
"She is at her best when you can get her back and let her get to the outside," Thomas said.
