Young Australian jockey Chad Schofield has enjoyed a couple of days in his native South Africa but the rest of the world beckons.
Schofield has been gaining experience in England during the southern hemisphere winter and will take up a six-month contract in Hong Kong next month.
He took time out to go to South Africa where his mount The Conglomerate was unplaced in the Durban July, but was soon back on a plane headed north.
He will barely have time to unpack his suitcase before he is in the air again.
"I will be back in England for about a week, then I head back to Australia to get everything ready for Hong Kong," Schofield said.
"Prior to my trip to England I had never ridden internationally but a lot has happened pretty quickly.
"It's great to get all this experience and travel to different countries, especially South Africa, as it's home."
He said he got a big thrill returning to trackwork at Summerveld on Friday, seeing familiar faces.
"They remembered me as a little fella running around causing havoc, so it's good to see everyone again," he said.
Schofield said riding work and in races for some of England's best trainers had been a great learning curve.
"I've been there for just over two months and had about 20 race rides, only a couple of winners, but the experience has been fantastic," he said.
"I've learned a lot and no doubt I will be able to use that riding experience and knowledge going forward.
"When I first got there I was very surprised with how different everything is, but I'm glad I made the decision to go when I did."
The 21-year-old will be returning to another home in Hong Kong having spent four years there when his jockey father Glyn was a contracted rider.
"Hopefully what I've learned in the past couple of months will help me when I get to Hong Kong and ride against all those good jockeys," Schofield said.
