The margin was small but the courage displayed was enormous, when gutsy 3yo filly BERGDORF (Manhattan Rain ex Miss Excellence) recorded her second win of her career at Ipswich on Friday afternoon.
Trained by successful North Coast based trainer Matthew Dunn, our 3yo filly took her resume up to 8 starts: 2 wins, 1 second and 1 third. This was her second win at Ipswich over the 1350m trip.
Ridden well by jockey Robbie Fradd, he piloted BERGDORF to score in the Provenance Technology P/L Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap over 1350m.
As a 3yo filly, lumping 58.5kgs was already a big ask, especially giving weight to the older mares but the task was made more difficult, when she was given the car park draw of barrier 12.
Tactically we had only one chance - push forward and try to slot over up near the early speed and ride for luck. We knew that it was a risk but if we were not positive early, we had no chance as we would have been stuck 4 or 5 deep without cover on the tight turning circuit.
Robbie Fradd couldn't have done anymore in what was a inch perfect ride.
The filly jumped away smartly and was in the lead out wide but a couple of runners pushed up inside her and went to the lead.
Robbie let those runners go and put the pace into the race so BERGDORF was able to work over and get a lovely trail on the speed. They were going very quick up front and the field was spread out over 15 lengths mid-race.
Approaching the turn Robbie angled off the heels of those in front and swung 4 deep into the straight. With the big weight and the hard work early and only second up after a spell, BERGDORF was out of gas and running on fumes with 100m to go.
Robbie knew she was in trouble as the swoopers started to gain momentum. Robbie kept our filly balanced and drove hard under hands and heels. Just 20 metres from the post BERGDORF was fully spent and changed lead legs as lactic acid took control. This cost vital momentum and the favourite pounced. However BERGDORF under Robbie's urging, saw the other horse loom and she dug deep in the shadows of the post to fight off those chasing her.
It was a tough, courageous win by a filly who appears that she will greet the judge a few more times in her career ahead.

BERGDORF is in the care of trainer Matthew Dunn. Twelve months ago to the day, Matty became an important part of Dynamic Syndications. We were searching for a trainer who could offer us a rural training environment for horses we had that were not handling the sausage factory environments of large city stables.
We had given Matty CHEW THE FAT a few years earlier and he did a good job with him to win for us. However when we on sold him we didn't have another horse to forward up the highway.
We found a few to send up to Matty and since then, it was 12 months to the day, 10 July 2014 when Matty found his way to the winners circle with Idle Chat.
Over the past calendar year, Matty has produced 18 Winners for us. It's proven to be a successful arrangement.
BERGDORF recorded Team Dynamic's 41st Race Win this 2014/15 season for horses we purchased.
BERGDORF also recorded our 427th Race Win since our first winner in October 2005.
During this time, we've had 172 individual runners, 148 individual winners (86.1%) whilst 167 have earned prizemoney (97.1%).
These stats are unrivalled and naturally we are very proud of these wonderful results we have achieved for Team Dynamic's Owners.
