Petits Filous impresses in Valley debut

Champion jockey Damien Oliver has predicted a good future for rising three-year-old filly Petits Filous after an impressive win on debut at Moonee Valley.

The Ciaron Maher-trained filly stepped out in Wednesday's Telstra Phonewords Handicap (1000m) and with the rail out seven metres on a heavy track Oliver sent Petits Filous to the front and took control of the race.

Petits Filous ($4) travelled nicely and skipped clear rounding the home turn before going on to score by six lengths.

"I think she's worth going on with into the early spring," Oliver said.

"She showed good speed, travelled well and gave a good kick which is everything you want.

"She's got a good future, I think."

Maher was confident Petits Filous would handle the rain-affected ground and said it was great to start the filly's career off with a win.

"She had shown that she would really handle this ground well and she was fit and ready to go, so we thought we'd try to be positive and make something of it, rather than be beaten by bad luck," Maher said.

"Damien walked the track beforehand and was pretty keen to roll forward and I was pretty keen for him to be there, too."

The Darren Weir-trained colt Labuan Star led in the chasing pack in second with another three lengths to Charlie Garcon third.

Petits Filous's winning time of 1:00.74 was two seconds faster than the following race for two-year-olds won by the Dean Binaisse-trained Equinova.

Equinova ($11) broke his maiden in his fourth start, finishing strongly between runners to win by 1-1/2 lengths.

Binaisse was confident the gelding would relish racing on the heavy (8) rated track.

"He won a trial at Balnarring on a heavy ten in really good time so that sort of gave us the real indicator that he was a wet tracker," Binaisse said.
