Jockey Dwayne Dunn will consider appealing an 11 meeting careless riding suspension which threatens to derail his hopes of a first Melbourne jockeys' premiership.

A winning treble on Wednesday at Moonee Valley shot Dunn back to the top of the premiership table, one win clear of Craig Williams and two ahead of Damien Oliver.

Dunn has eight rides at Flemington on Saturday but is due to commence his suspension after that meeting, returning for Sale on July 30.

Unless Dunn lodges an appeal and gets the ban reduced, he will miss the final three city meetings of the season.

The final metropolitan meeting is at Ballarat on July 26.

Dunn pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge after guiding Unassailed to victory in the Telstra Business Centre Point Cook Handicap (1600m), the first leg of his treble.

He followed up with victories on Blendwell in the Vita Group Handicap and pick-up ride Lazyaxl in the Telstra Phoneworlds Handicap.

Lazyaxl's win was Dunn's 55th of the season.

Stewards deemed Dunn's interference in the mid-range.

"I don't think it's mid-range for what it was," Dunn said.

"I pleaded guilty so they can't go any other way than that, but as far as mid-range I think it's pretty harsh.

"I've got a good record, I pleaded guilty and I think he (Craig Robertson on Tom Puss) on my inside over-reacted."

The treble on Wednesday was Dunn's second three-winner haul in consecutive Moonee Valley meetings, however he is ruing the fact more meetings were not run at Sandown, Caulfield and Moonee Valley during the season.

"My form is better at Caulfield, Sandown and Moonee Valley but we haven't had that many meetings at those tracks," Dunn said.

"We've instead been racing at Flemington, Ballarat and around the bush, but at the end it is what it is."

Dunn said his season has been a success irrespective of whether he decides to appeal the suspension.

"These are sort of the numbers I run every year but it's been a competitive year between the top 10 or 15 riders," he said.

"I've had a really good season and set myself my own goals which I've been able to achieve, so that's all that I can ask for.

"We've got Saturday and if I can pull out another three on Saturday, I suppose I can make it competitive to the end."
