Gerald Ryan rates Snitzel among the best horses he has ever trained and is renowned for his affinity with his progeny.
So when he spotted a three-quarter brother to the 2006 Oakleigh Plate winner at the yearling sale, he was immediately attracted to the colt.
Now a two-year-old, King's Troop is scheduled to make his debut at Rosehill on Saturday and punters have already rallied behind him based on his seven-length barrier trial win earlier this month.
He has been backed into $3.80 favouritism for the Bob Ingham Plate (1100m) but Ryan warns he may not start if the track is too wet.
"If the rain comes then we may have to re-think things," Ryan said.
"I don't think I'd want to start him on a heavy 10."
King's Troop is raced by his breeder Arrowfield Stud but Ryan says that is by coincidence not design.
"I picked him out at the sales and paid $200,000 for him," Ryan said.
"I liked him because he looked a lot like Snitzel.
John Messara then asked if I had a client and when I said no, he said he wanted to stay in him.
"He's only a little fellow, 15.1 hands.
"He didn't show too much until we put him in a jump-out. He seems to go better out of the gates than he does in track work.
"His latest trial was very good but he has to do it on race day."
