Lake Geneva has broken her status as one of Australia's best maidens with an effortless win at Hawkesbury on Thursday.
Piloted by Tommy Berry, Lake Geneva, who finished third in the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond last preparation, sat one-out, one-back in the run.
Berry barely moved on the Fastnet Rock filly as she loomed and took the lead at the 200m mark with the jockey giving her one cut with the whip after she hit the front.
Co-trainer Michael Hawkes was understandably happy with the `kill' and hoped Lake Geneva would now go on with the job this time in, starting with the Silver Shadow Stakes in a fortnight.
"She's not the best maiden in Australia anymore, that's for sure," Hawkes said to Sky Racing.
"She could have led them up, she could have been behind, he (Berry) only got out the last 150m, put one round her behind and it was all over.
"It was a nice run, it was a starting point... it's not where you start, it's where you finish."
Berry was equally impressed claiming a win was all the three-year-old filly needed and that she had returned a stronger horse than the one who ran third behind Gai Waterhouse-trained duo Vancouver and English in the Golden Slipper.
"That's what she really needed today, a confidence booster," Berry said.
"She never really travelled that well in the run... but I loved the way when she pulled out she really towed me up to them.
"We will go on to bigger and better things with her.
"She's no bigger than she was last prep but feels physically stronger and that's what we wanted to see from her."
