Warwick Farm ripped up by vandals

Friday 7 August 2015, 3:39pm

Large sections of turf in the straight at Warwick Farm racecourse have been ripped up by a car.

Staff will scramble to repair the track ahead of the next scheduled meeting at the course on August 26.

"At this stage it is too early to say if the next meeting at Warwick Farm will be disrupted by the damage, and we will continue to monitor the repair work before we make a decision on any possible transfers," Australian Turf Club chief executive Darren Pearce said in a statement on Friday.

"This has really upset my team at Warwick Farm and is a problem for the racing industry, so we will be taking all necessary steps to ensure the long arm of the law catches up with these vandals."

Pearce said police and Racing NSW stewards have some strong leads in their hunt for the culprits.
