Echo Gal used a tailwind and the driest Randwick track in six months set a class record on Saturday.
The four-year-old mare, ridden by Tim Clark, showed speed from the barrier to lead all the way in the TAB.com.au Handicap.
Echo Gal ran the 1200m in 1min08.93secs, eclipsing the previous mark 1min09.59secs set by Oakfield Beauty in 2011.
"She got back to probably her preferred surface and probably her most-liked racing pattern," Clark said.
"The track feels really good, quite firm - it's definitely in the good range."
Gai Waterhouse's stable foreman Mark Newham said Echo Gal would now contest a stakes-grade race for mares.
"We'll just sort of see what's on the calendar," he said.
"There's a few (black-type races) coming up so now she's in form and the tracks are improving, it's time to aim her at a little better."
The Chris Waller-trained stablemates Holy Delusion and Wine Tales filled the placings, with the latter running on late after a slow start.
Randwick officials upgraded the track after the race.
Track manager Nevesh Ramdhani said it was the first time since February that a meeting at Sydney's racing headquarters has been held on a surface rated better than soft.
