Exciting filly Fontiton could be set for a first-up clash with some of the best weight-for-age sprinters in the country.
The Robert Smerdon-trained filly was not nominated for the Thousand Guineas when entries closed last week, with connections to keep the three-year-old to sprints this spring.
Smerdon has revealed the Group One Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on October 2 is in their sights as a first-up option.
"We're thinking about the Moir," Smerdon said.
"We didn't nominate her for the Thousand Guineas and we're going to keep her to sprinting.
"She'll head towards the Coolmore Stud Stakes."
The Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) is at Flemington on October 31 and is likely to be her third start of the spring.
Fontiton won by six lengths on debut last spring in a juvenile race at Moonee Valley over the Moir Stakes distance.
She added wins in the Group Three Blue Diamond fillies Preview and Group Two Blue Diamond fillies Prelude earlier this year before finishing fifth as favourite in the Group One Blue Diamond.
She emerged from that race needing surgery to remove bone chips in a fetlock.
Thurlow, another stakes-winning juvenile filly from the Smerdon stable last season, will resume in Saturday's Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.
