Trainer Les Ross hopes history can repeat itself after his filly Maybe Even You scored an impressive win at Doomben on Wednesday.
Owner Mick Crooks watched the race on television in Broome, Western Australia, as Maybe Even You ($7) strolled home to an easy win in the Captain Morgan Maiden Plate (1200m).
Crooks, who is in Broome for the annual Cup week, is the Ross stable's biggest owner and is best known for horses he breeds which all have Mishani incorporated in their names.
However, he does not use the Mishani tag for horses he buys and one of those was Maybe Even You who cost $60,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions sales. The filly is a half sister to Steel Zip who won at Doomben on Saturday.
Ross said he had high hopes for Maybe Even You who he ran in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes as a two-year-old.
"I won this race three years ago for Mick with Cuddlesome who went on to win six races. So hopefully history will repeat itself and Maybe Even You will win through her classes," Ross said.
Winning jockey Brad Pengelly said Maybe Even You had been very strong to the line and should win better races.
Meanwhile, Ballina trainer Stephen Phelps made a rare visit to Brisbane to win the 1200m UberX maiden Plate with Diggler ($9).
Diggler, who had run eight minor placings from his previous 11 starts, started with Peter and Paul Snowden in Sydney and then was with Brisbane trainer Steve O'Dea.
He has been with Phelps for two starts for a win and a second.
